SHEEO exists to empower and educate rural adolescent girls to overcome poverty, inequality, harmful gender norms, and other social barriers so they can complete their education, stay safe, make informed choices, and build independent and fulfilling futures. We believe that education is one of the most powerful pathways out of poverty and inequality. When girls have access to quality education and the support they need to succeed, they are better positioned to realize their full potential, improve their well-being, and contribute positively to their families and communities. Education is therefore our primary pathway for change. To ensure girls can access, remain in, and benefit from education, SHEEO complements educational support with leadership development, life skills and health education, gender equality advocacy, economic empowerment, and community and family engagement. SHEEO places girls at the center of its interventions while actively engaging parents, schools, community leaders, and other stakeholders to create a supportive environment that protects, nurtures, and enables their development.
