SHEEO adopts a holistic, inclusive, and gender-transformative Girls’ Education and Empowerment Approach that addresses the interconnected barriers preventing rural adolescent girls from accessing quality education, developing life skills, exercising their rights, and achieving economic independence. At the heart of SHEEO’s work is the belief that education is the primary pathway for empowering girls and breaking the cycle of poverty, inequality, and exclusion. Education equips girls with knowledge, confidence, agency, and opportunities that can transform not only their own lives but also those of their families and communities. However, many rural adolescent girls in Tanzania face multiple barriers that limit their educational opportunities and future prospects. These include poverty, gender discrimination, harmful social norms, child marriage, adolescent pregnancy, school dropout, violence, limited access to health information, and lack of economic opportunities Recognizing that educational success cannot be achieved in isolation, SHEEO strengthens girls’ education through five interconnected pillars that support both in-school and out-of school adolescent girls.
